O2 iPhone SettingsWith the iPhone 4 coming out there will be a number of people wondering how to get there new device to play nicely with the networks.

These are the settings that I found to have worked with Loupie’s iPhone 3.

I am very happy that Apple have chosen to sell the iPhone 4 without any  network locks direct from their shop, and when I have some cash I will be getting a black 16gig one.

At the moment I have an old O2 Simplicity £20 rolling contract, on which I get 1200 SMS, 600 minutes of talk time, and UNLIMITED internet, however if I was to change contract, I would only get 500MB of data, 300 minutes, and I would have to pay 20p per picture messaging (used to cost me 4 free SMS…). So on that I am in no hurry to change my service; and as for changing provider, the other providers that have announced there tariffs are all worse than what I have currently.

My only challange will be getting a new ‘micro’ sim to work in my iPhone.

The O2 data settings are as follows:

  • Cellular Data
    • APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
    • username: vertigo
    • password: password
  • Visual Voice Mail
    • Doesn’t work
  • MMS
    • APN: wap.o2.co.uk
    • username: vertigo
    • password: password
    • MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk
    • MMS Proxy: 193.113.200.195:8080

I don’t think I would miss Visual Voice Mail as its not a service I have ever had, so don’t know what the advantage would be.

Other networks should have about the same settings, but also have a look at my post about unlocking a 3G modem, which lists the settings for all the main UK providers.

On the Weekend Loupie, a few of TermiSoc and I went to see the SteamPunk exhibit at the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford. The trip was suggested by Stewart Starbuck as he was going to meet up with a group of Steam Punk geeks from Brass Goggles, and invited others from TermiSoc to come along for a Trip. so all in all there were 6 of us intrepid adventurers; As well as the three mentioned there was bma, Laces, and Sayyan.

The exhibit itself was in a small gallery on the basement level. along with the steam punk exhibit there was a work shop to learn how to make steam punk jewellery and an area where you could play with Maccano.

Apart from the size of the gallery, everything else was really cool. We went for lunch in the (well according to Laces) the Burning Baby, or as the rest of us called it The Eagle & Child. a small pub of No notability at all

The Eagle and Child was once a favourite watering hole of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. They often met for discussion (and argument) over a pint.

On the bar wall is a signed note to the landlord written in 1949 stating that J.R.R Tolkien and C.S. Lewis have drunk to his health. well we mostly stuck to one drink each.

Loupie has been doing her 101 things in 1001 days for a while now. I can’t quite remember how far through she is.

After subscribing to the Project52 idea; I wondered what else I could do. and the DayZero Project Sounds interesting;

The Challenge:
Complete 101 pre-set tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple challenges such as New Year’s resolutions or a ‘Bucket List’. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips, study semesters, or outdoor activities.

So while I am thinking about my list of 101 things I will list the ones I come up with below, with a view to start the challenge on the 1st March 2010 which puts my end date 1029 days.

  14. Sell off all unnecessary things on Ebay
  15. get rid of clothes not worn in 2 years
  16. Host a wine and cheese evening
  17. Buy a new CD each month for a year
  18. Give £2 to charity for each task I don’t complete
  19. Go swimming at least once a week for 3 months
  20. Complete the “The Most Ancient and Venerable Order of the Skylark and Hawthorne” challenge [ref]
  21. Drink only water for 1 month
  22. Watch 25 of 100 “Best Movies” [This list]
  23. Host a board game night
  24. Have dinner by candlelight
  25. Put £25 for every goal completed into a Savings account
  26. Not log into facebook for a whole week
  27. Keep my bedroom spotless for a month
  28. Go for a walk every day for a month
  29. Spend a whole weekend (Sat-Sun) without TV/Computer/Etc.
  30. Get a new camera
  31. Get a new Phone
  32. Learn how to scuba dive
  33. Skinny dip
  34. Update my Curriculum Vitae
  35. plant a tree
  36. Go to at least 10 concerts
  37. Stop biting my nails
  38. See the Rocky Horror Picture Show in drag
  39. Complete the C25K
  40. Complete the One Hundred Press-up Challenge
  41. Complete the Two Hundred Sit up challenge
  42. Complete the 7lb in 7 Day supper juice diet

I will have to have a think about this and work some more on it.

Things that have been removed from my list:

  • Give up chocolate for a month [1]
  • Give up fizzy drinks for a month [1]
  • Inspire someone else to make a Day Zero list [2]
  • Complete the “5,000 Question Survey” [this] [3]
  1. Loupie Correctly pointed out that these would not be a challenge for me, as I so rarely do the activity I would be giving up
  2. After reading this blog bma and Natalie started their own lists but before I had started my DayZero project.
  3. This Task has no real aim, and or point; and as such has been removed.

Cruxshadows Gig PosterOn Saturday night went to the Cruxshadows gig with Voices of Masada as a supporting band at the O2 Academy, in Islington! (FaceBook event link) with Emily and Ruth, Ruth instantly turned into a “Screaming Fan-Girl“.

I managed to get a few photos of the bands; but because the bouncers have a thing against cameras I was restricted to using my small one :’( however Photos should be after the jump and on the Facebook Event.

All in All it was Awsome :D and I would recommend that you go and see the Cruxshadows at least once :D not to mention that the ticket price would have been worth paying just to see Voices of Masada or a Ayria; we didn’t get to see Greenhaus; but that was because we were eating; and Emily had said that they were not that great anyway.

gemmas photo of a sunset Gemma doesn’t seem to have picked up on this one yet, but a while ago Ben and I were talking in MSN, or Yahoo, and he showed me this link, to a woman (she is a Graphic Designer) in the US’s blog, and at the same time this link, to Gemma’s site, and asked me what was the same (the hint is to the right ->) it seems Ferris, doesn’t understand that linking to the copyright owners site is a good idea on the web.

resized Which all in all leads me onto my point about copyright infringement (please note that because a Picture is worth 1000 words, I have included the article that appeared in the Redbridge Guardian in its completeness, as its not online. (please click on for larger)

woodhouse player image As stated in the previous blog post Ruth was involved with the Woodhouse players Little Mermaid. and I took some photos for, including the one on the right, and if your looking at it thinking you have seen it before, well yes, its the one in the news paper clipping. On the Wood hose players page the following is stated "Images by and © Skippy – http://PhilipMcGaw.com"; why is it that the Redbridge Guardian have failed even to state that the image was provided by the wood house players for inclusion in the article, there is space for the copyright, or reference directly below the image. I would not have minded having something like "image provided by Woodhouse players" as I gave the images to the WHP, but as it is the source of the image is unclear.

Which brings us back to Gods Copyright; in the conversation between Ben and me, he asked if because Ferris had stated

I am going to cherish a sunset that God has made previously and that someone else thought was so beautiful that it had to be captured by a photograph

Is this why she did not feel the need to reference Gemma for taking the photo?

Updated title with regards to bens post on Creationist Copyright.

In this article all copyright holders, and sources have been attributed, and items for which I don’t hold copyright have been used for Citation, I believe this is fair use, please tell me (in the comments section) if you disagree.

Dan the evil guy, who likes Google. (who try to do no evil) came up with an image of who is getting there arse’s kicked by the pod cast [see here] now at the moment I am in no danger of loosing to it, but i have remembered just how long ago my last post was, as such its time to fill in.

Since the 14th November I have not put fingers to keyboard once, towards putting information(?) in my blog!

so in the news.

  1. New Job! – since the 28th of November, I have been working as an Assistant Engineer with a company called Kembrey Wiring Systems Ltd. There main product is boxes filled with wires, and connectors to go on British Aircraft, the job is not too bad, but can be a little slow, and monotonous at times.
  2. Loupie’s Panto, Ruth was in a rendition of The Little Mermaid over Christmas, (you may have been told about it) and i took some of the photos that have since appeared on the Woodhouse Players site :D
  3. Ruth and I pent Christmas and New year together, (your not having all the details :p).

There will be more to come, so enjoy :D

In Other news Swindon Station was closed off last night due to a “Security Alert” [from Swindon Advertiser], Now as some one on the 18:11 departure from Swindon to London Paddington, i can assure you that the adver is yet again full of crap. (not really unusual) the security response was, the guy in a yellow jacket that FGW employ to look after the station, four plane clothed security staff (possibly police), and only when the train was due to depart one lowly WPC on the platform. oh and no one had a gun,

So 2 hours of sitting on a train in swindon, and Ben has lots of work to do.
