I have been paying my tax like a good person for a large number of years; OK sometimes I have claimed job seekers allowance; but other than the JSA and the Rebates; I have mostly paid the correct amount of TAX, and got mostly a good service from the public sector; however I found out that I may have been over paying Tax, A guy at work showed me that there is a rebate for uniform/specialist clothing that you clean at home. so a quick letter to HM Revenue & Customs, and we will see what they say,

Details of the letter are bellow:

On The front is:

HM Revenue & Customs
Pay as You Earn
PO Box 1970
Liverpool
L75 1WX

Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to claim tax relief on the expenses of my employment as I am required to wear a uniform or specialist clothing and I am responsible for its cleaning. As per EIM 32480 I am entitled to claim a deduction from my taxable income for the cost of upkeep, replacement and repair of protective clothing or uniforms. (The standard expense allowance set out by EIM 32485 is £45 pa up to 2007/08 and £60 pa thereafter).

Notes on Protective and Safety Clothing

Protective clothing may include: high-viz jacket/tabard/safety shoes/safety glasses/hard hat. The employee does not necessarily have to wear these on daily basis but must be required to wear them at some point in the course of their employment

e.g. – an office worker who has to wear a high-vis tabard to attend a monthly stock take is required to wear protective clothing for the purposes of their employment and would be able to claim the allowance.

I would like to claim this relief at its highest available rate of either of those in EIM32485, the nationally agreed rates in § 367 ITEPA 2003 as per EIM32712, or any locally agreed rates that may have been agreed for my job.

The Details of my employment and the years of claim are as follows:

{list of Jobs, with Dates, and Companys}

I would like HMR&C to inform me directly of my claim whether successful of not. Any request for further information should be made directly of me (the claimant) my telephone number is {phone number}.

I would like any annual allowance to be reflected in my future tax codes so that I can continue to receive the benefit and tax relief.

Yours faithfully

Mr Skippy

And on the Back is:

Date received by HMR&C:

Details of Claimant

Full name
Address

Post Code

NI Number

Claim

I claim repayment of the amount overpaid by me, (for non SA claims the period of year end must be entered in the box aside). [05/04/2011]

Signed:

Date:                      21/03/2012

The List of Jobs and rates are shown in the following attachments:

On my Day Zero List is the desire to learn to program; one of the things that people have been playing with in their down time here at Pennant Traning Systems is Project Euler:

What is Project Euler?

Project Euler is a series of challenging mathematical/computer programming problems that will require more than just mathematical insights to solve. Although mathematics will help you arrive at elegant and efficient methods, the use of a computer and programming skills will be required to solve most problems.

As I am poking about more and more with the Teensy USB Development Board [my note book of sorts] (I have four now, two Teensy 2.0s and two Teensy++ 2.0) and I am looking to play a bit more with the Arduino (or Arduino Clones), and since I am more of a mac user than anything else, I probably should look at learning Objective-C.

I am already using a Teensy / Arduino microcontroler for a number of projects of mine (Accessible Keyboard and My 1st ROV) so trying to use them, and Objective-C for Project Euler could make for an interesting challenge:

Project Euler – Problem 1 code for a Teensy:

/*
Project Euler - Problem 1

    If we list all the natural numbers below 10 that are multiples of 3 or 5, we get 3, 5, 6 and 9.
    The sum of these multiples is 23.

    Find the sum of all the multiples of 3 or 5 below 1000.
*/

#include

int loops = 1;
int times = 1000;
long test = 1;
long result = 0;

void setup()
{
    Serial.begin(38400);
    delay (6000); // Give me time to start the serial consol
}

void loop()
{
    if (loops < times)
    {
        // we are looking for numbers between test and times that are multiples of 3, or 5

        // the %3 == 0 checks for the remainder being Zero I think;
        // the == Logical Same,
        // the || Logical OR
        if (test %3 == 0 || test %5 == 0)
        {
            result = result + test;
            Serial.println(test);
        }
    }
    else
    {
        Serial.println("This has either Finished, or is broken.");
        Serial.println("The Result is:");
        Serial.println(result);
        delay (600000);
    }
    test++;
    loops++;
}

Ok so it is probably not very well optimised, and could be a lot cleaner; but its a start. however importantly it gave me the correct answer.

As I progress through the Problems, my code should start to get optimised, and my maths skills should get better too.

While I don’t agree that AV (Alternative Vote) is the best system; it’s the one we are being offered; it also looks like the official Yes! to Fairer Votes campaign is being run by a bunch of people who don’t get the web. The Arguments put forwards by the group who are telling us to Vote No to AV are not that taxing on my mind, a recent flyer tells us to “Vote NO to the Alternative Vote because…

It will produce more coalitions

It is used in only 3 other countries

It allows the second or third placed candidate to win

it will cost the country £250 million

It means that someone else’s 5th preference is worth the same as your 1st preference

It will mean that supporters of the BNP and other fringe parties would decide who wins”

Is this what the FPTP group have as their main arguments?

Apart from the huge power imbalance between the Tory Party; and the Liberal Democrats, and their willingness to roll over and take it up the {redacted}, coalitions are not a bad thing.

Three other countries? since it would require other countries to have a party in charge that is willing to desolve there own power-base, is it difficult to understand why why there are not that many progressive countries? how many Dictatorships do you think are “willing” to become a democracy?

It allows Candidates with most widespread support to win; although it could also be pointed out; it allows the “least objectionable” candidate to win.

It costs this country more to do other things; I am sure that “the war on Terror” is costing more.

No; what this means; is that you didn’t support the most popular candidate?

A number of people who vote BNP as their number one preference, will not be right wing; knuckle dragging idiots; in the same way as not everyone who votes UKIP is a BNP supporter; using the BNP as the elephant in the room is full of fail.

Would you stop this man, Would you arrest him for carrying a two inch knife in a multikit on the EuroStar?

Would you consider him a Terrorist? Would you think that this man had a vast knolage of military things?

Well, he is not a terrorist, he is Tom Foulkes, the Director General of the ICE (Institute of Civil Engineers), and he was arrested and detained for caring a two inch knife onto the Eurostar. and before any one says he was carrying a weapon, well he was an inch under the legal definition of a offensive weapon. but he s a military, civil, and mechanical engineer. He was educated at Clifton College, RMA Sandhurst, RMCS Shrivenham (BSc in Civil Engineering), Staff College, RCDS and the Open University (MBA). So could be a person who knows how to make bombs.

As he says “is such a toolkit really an offensive weapon”? Is its possession by a middle-aged retired Army officer really an arrest-able offence? Was my detention a good use of police time? Has any of this made London a safer place?î

Well, I am still more worried about Police Stupidity.

The strange People from Labor were Char-Grilled, and the guy from UKIP hadent got a Clue, and was compleatly off the wall, (would have made a great drinking game…)

Kris moaned that all my photos were out of Focus (will have to learn how to use matrix mode focus)

so after all the political speak, there is still only one person who I feel that represents the people, and to say it politly, she is really off the wall, but not in a bad way… just compleatly mad
