After reading this artical on windows XP password auditing I wondered how secure my system was, so as we speak i am conducting a brute force / dictionary attack on the password hashes, to see what it says,
some how i feel my password is strong :D

Just to be on the safe side i will change my password every two and half years,
well it does take five to crack by brute force, so i better not forget it either….

That’s five years to go through every possible password. It could quite possibly be cracked in much less.
Five years is the time it takes to be certain of cracking it.

I know that ben, but the chance of getting it in a day slim…..
its not a Word, and its got speshal charictures….. so its not a dictionary attack….

Hey there, thanks for linking :)
If you got a pretty powerful cpu, it could take much less then 5 years! If you want to use some other software then the one I provided in the article, you may want to try John the Ripper. I think it’s much faster then Cain&Abel. No fancy graphical interface tho :)

AMD Sempron 3300 with a gig of ram, one day it might be quicker,
also I feel quite happy with the commandline, so i may have to give the other software a go
