Automatic Panoramic Head – Part 3: View the Camera

Sofortbild 1I have been looking for a replacement for my D70, I asked the following on Facebook:

Recommendations on a camera; I am thinking Canon so I can flash it with CHDK, doesn’t need to be a full DSLR as I want to do things with it like make it fly, or sit under water (both of those in external enclosures). but still needs to be a good day to day semi-pro camera. oh and the ability to do live view finder to my mac would be awesome!

Over the course of the conversation with Jason Mayfield-Lewis who works for a Camera Shop, I found out that Canon Hack Development Kit (CHDK) doesn’t work with the DSLR line of Canon Cameras, however I could use Magic Lantern with Canon EOS 550D however Sofortbild (Mac Tethered Shooting) doesn’t work with the Canon range, however it does work with the Nikon D7000 Digital SLR (Available with a 18-105mm Lens) (The D7000 has a much more solid body (mag alloy) than the d70/80/90 (polycarbonate) though, however it lacks the weather sealing of the 300/s and the FX bodies but it’d certainly take a lot more abuse than the entry level SLRs). Although neither Magic Lantern or CHDK work with Nikon Cameras, people over at Nikon Hacker are working on an alternative firm wear for the Nikon D7000.

Yesterday I went to Swindoom Town and Picked a Nikon D7000 (with the 18-105mm lens) from Great Western Cameras (will price match agains Jessops but not Amazon, not to mention better Customer Services).

Today I picked up a Mini photo studio, and two sheets of Acrylic from Sham Glam, and used them to make this video showing off Tethering with Sofortbild:

I am testing out Tethering with Sofortbild so that I can use the camera remotely
