Tony Wrench’s “Building a Low Impact Roundhouse” is a book that I picked up while I was at university; this was a re-read to refresh my memory about the subject;
Tony‘s ecohome in West Wales is completely off the grid (water is piped from a mountain source) It is of wood frame construction with, cobwood and recycled window walls, straw-insulated turf roof; with solar power and wind turbine for electricity.
It was designed and built it over the winter 1997/8, and the book is a Build Log of that process;
Since it was built, it has had planning permission refused; and is currently is in a state of planning permission limbo, the Roundhouse is part of the Brithdir Mawr Community.
I re-read this book because of my interest in Living Off the Grid; and by re-reading it I hoped to absorb more information, while I am not looking to live in a roundhouse; there is an amount of transferable skills, and information in the book.
