Dave Everett of the K9 Builders Club has created a set of files that allow you to cut the K-9 body from Styrene board, Izzy has built one of his, and her blog also has a number of reference images on it.
I am tempted to build a number of the flat large parts from Laser Cut Plywood (Hacman has an A4, and Fred Aldous in Manchester have an A1 laser cutter), For the base plate I will probably go to Manchester FabLab and with a sheet of 18 mm Plywood and machine it on the ShopBot.
I have found this PDF with some dimensions on it, for rough ideas of how big my K9 will get: K-9 Dimensions
I have mirrored the David Everett files here as I can’t find the location I acquired them from anymore:
- Dave Everett’s K-9 body Assembly Instructions
- Dave Everett’s K-9 Head Assembly Instructions
- K9 Base Assembly Instructions
- K9 Control Panel Assembly instructions
Most of the PDF are A1, and the others are A4, Keep reading for an update on the machining, and the electronics.

Can you tell me what was used for the rubber part of K9’s tail?
I am not sure sorry, I will update it when I find one
It was a rubber boot from a Mini. You can still buy these from places where they sell spares for Minis. For more information, head to the forum: http://k9.replicarobots.net/ 🙂
Is http://k9.replicarobots.net/ still running? I signed up weeks ago and never got the email.
I have not heard anything from Dave Everett (Dave Everett, Australian and founder of the R2-D2 Builders Club).
The original plan/ file location is from here: http://k9.replicarobots.net/
There is a TONE of reference images there too. 🙂
I never get the sign up email, Is the forum software installed properly?
Same here, I’ve signed up twice but never get the confirmation e-mail back.
Also signed up and no email. I guess he don’t update the site anymore.
I’ve tried to sign up several times too, no luck.
These files are exactly what I was needing, to kick off my K9 project. Although I haven’t read all the text yet, I don’t see anything so far about the significance of the cross-hatched lines on some of the plan pages. Are they to be measured for size accuracy? Much appreciated, for your posting the files, by the way. I’ll have to get started soon. My Dalek needs a friend to play with.
The cross hatch area is a 10 mm grid for checking that the image is square and the correct size.
Howdy.
I’m trying to track down directions for the electronics for a K-9 unit. I plan to start this summer and I’m missing the electronics piece. Can you help?
I think it would be hard for anyone to choose to use the same electronics as another person.
All I can suggest is that when I write my post; you view that
Hi, greetings from Germany.
The upper parts of the head are still missing (nose, eyes, top of head). Is there a chance they are coming?
Best regards Michael
BTW: i can’t sign in to http://k9.replicarobots.net/ – getting “Login error! You have not activated your account.”. Never got a mail. User and PW i have.
I spoke to Dave a while ago when I was having issues getting onto the forums, (his email address is on here) his suggestion was that there was an issue with Firefox:
I haven’t seen any further details than the attached PDFs, I have some more source material on my site:
Hi Skippy, could you please hand my Username Gilmor to Dave? I have Firefox (IE makes much more trouble on my old laptop). I tried to make a new account (with another email) but there happens nothing too.
Thanks and best regards Michael
I am not in a position to email him everyone’s details. However I have provided a link to his email address as I don’t have permission to share it here.
Hi Skippy,
maybe i need glasses but i found no reference to Daves email on the site not even in the source) or the PDFs or given links. If noone can help me with Daves email, i have to give up with k9.replicatrobots.net. Searching the web did not help too.
I will take a look into http://whoprops.proboards.com/board/8/k9, what they do.
Best regards Michael

Thanks for the other reference, I will have a look at that.
Hello Skippy, thanks! Dave helped me and now i can login! Best regards Michael

Any thoughts on how much 3m and 1mm HIPS are needed for this?
