3D Printer

I have a soft spot for Geeky things, One of the things I am making with the help of [[user:nat]] is a 3D printer,

I have chosen to build Sublime‘s Tantillus:

The need for a truly portable open-source 3D printer has finally been filled. Tantillus provides easy computer-less printing in a stunning beautifully small package. With the ability to reproduce its entire case Tantillus comes the closest any RepRap has to being a self reproducing machine.

So Far I have amassed:

Parts:

  • Laser Cut Case
  • Bottom Corners
  • Extruder large gear
  • Vitamins
    • Bearings
    • 608 skate bearings
    • LM8uu linear motion bearings (24mm long)
    • LM8suu linear motion bearings (17mm long)
  • Electronics
    • Blue LED backlit LCD.
    • Arduino Mega.
    • Nema 17 stepper motors (max length of 40mm recommended)1
    • Stepstick or pololu stepper drivers2
    • RAMPS shield
    • J-head Mk-IV-B

Due to living on a boat, and having [[http://skippy.org.uk/solar-power-on-boats/|more 12 V than most people can shake a pointy stick at]] (it rises and falls between 12.4 and 14.2 depending on what is supplying the charger etc) I plan to run it without the transformer, however I should regulate the power, so at some point I will build myself a DC-DC converter.
