I know people think IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a bit old fashioned, but since we can’t get WhatsApp to replace it, I have been using IRC more and more again.
After asking bma what he used, he recommended ZNC (its what he uses), I installed ZNC on Vor (Just Vigilante‘s Main Server),
Setting up ZNC was easy 🙂 as in very easy, for me it was
sudo yum install znc
(there did not seem to be a znc-extra as an option) then run
znc --makeconf
After answering all the questions (I set mine up on an unusual port), it was time to add the servers I use, and get the clients set up, Historically I used Adium, however with MSN having given up working in the UK and skype being shit this left me with the option of going with an IRC client written natively for mac, another bma recommendation is Textual an IRC for Mac OS X.
The settings for each channel turned out to be:
At the moment this is all working nicely (it took a long time to get it to all work).
One thought on “irc on the go…”
You asked me if I could find a reference to how I knew about the name/server requirement for setting up Textual with ZNC it’s here: Connecting to ZNC Bouncer (Yes, that is the Textual Wiki)
