This is my wondering the other way along the Wilts and Berks Canal from Purton Road Bridge into West Swindon, this should be from just south of the number 5.
The Cycle path at this point crosses the line of the canal; so for the cut to be continued south there will need to be a change of alignment.
this leads up to a signpost showing where all the cycle paths in this area lead
The line towards west mead is an off road cycle track; at the top of an embankment, with the river ray at the bottom;
Where the cycle path crosses under the railway there seems to be two arches on the bridge
Slightly further south is more evidence that I am on the right path
However after this point I lost the alignment; so I went to town to see what books I could get from the library on the subject of the wilts and berks canal.
At the Library I found L.J. Dalby’s Wilts and Berks Canal (Canal histories)
so I will have to have a read of this; and see if I can work out the alignment; also in the library are copes of the restoration feasibility studies,
In the same evening I went along to the Swindon Branch Wilts and Berks Canal Trust meeting; and may now be going to help with the restoration on the Sunday. (yes there will be a post).
